Common Names:

Pemba Palm

Distribution & Habitat:

Found only in rainforest on Pemba, a small island off the coast of Tanzania in eastern Africa.

Description:

An attractive, medium sized, clustering palm to about 12m tall, with slender, smooth, strongly ringed trunks. It has dark green, elegant, leaves with close, evenly arranged leaflets, up to 2.4m long.

General:

Not often seen in cultivation, but should be.

Culture:

Sunny, moist, but well drained position in the tropics or sub-tropics. Fast growing, but probably not frost tolerant.
