Synonymy:

This species is now considered to be V. arecina.

Common Names:

Sunshine Palm

Conservation Status:

Not threatened

Distribution & Habitat:

Grows in moist rainforests on the island of Vanuatu in the New Hebrides.

Description:

Tall solitary pinnate palm to 15m tall. Obviously very similar to V. arecina, the main differences being that the leaves have a relatively small number of rather broad leaflets, and they are almost always slightly inclined above the horizontal. It also has the most compact canopy of the taller Veitchias.
