Distribution & Habitat:

Central American rainforest

Description:

A tall, (to about 3m) densely clumping palm, with canes up to about 1cm in diameter.

Culture:

Sunny, moist, but well drained position. Needs shade when young, but can take full sun as it gets older. The most cold tolerant of the bamboo Chamaedoreas.

Figures 3&4 are of the form once thought to be a different species and called C. erumpens. They have noticeably wider leaflets than the standard form. These are second generation plants of seed distributed by the IPS in the 1970's.
