Distribution & Habitat:
Deciduous cloud forest around San Luis Potosi and Quiretaro in eastern Mexico, between 900 and 1200m altitude.
A small cycad to about 15cm all, with leaves to about 1.5m long, with leaflets clustered along the rachis in groups of 2 or 3.
A very attractive plant which has become very popular with cycad enthusiasts. Almost extinct in its native habitat, due to pressure from plant collectors.
Warm, sheltered and moist. A fast grower, it can reach coning size in about 5 years from seed. Some people recommend that it be grown in a slightly alkaline mix.
