Dwarf Rock Palm
Distribution:
The Sierra Madre Oriental in north-eastern Mexico
Habitat:
Dry, high altitude oak forest on rocky limestone slopes, between 1500, and 2000m.
Description:
A small palm with an underground trunk, and a sparse crown of lush, dark green leaves with white undersides. The inflorescence is erect, and stands above the foliage.
General:
Only recently introduced into cultivation, this is a very hardy, attractive palm, with a big future as a horticultural subject.
Culture:
Shady, very well drained position. Drought and very frost tolerant (down to -10°C).
