Palms   Oncosperma tigillarium

Synonymy: Oncosperma filamentosum Common Names: Nibung Distribution: South-east Asia Habitat: Lowland swampy rainforest. Description: A tall (to 25m) densely clumping palm, with up to 50 trunks, all of which are covered with long black spines. It has fine pinnate leaves, with very attractive, drooping leaflets. General: A very attractive palm, but due to its requirements, and size, isn't often seen outside tropical gardens. This palm has extremely hard, rot resistant wood which is used in fish traps in Borneo. Culture: Sunny, and very moist position. Requires tropical conditions.
