Habitat:
Secondary forest, and rocky slopes in open forest.

Description:
A medium sized, solitary palm to about 12m tall, with a gracefull crown of drooping, dark green leaves. The petioles are very spiny on young plants, but these lessen considerably as the plant gets older.

General:
Was once a very popular indoor plant in Europe, and is still widely grown in the tropics.

Culture:
Warm, sheltered and moist, but very well drained. Very cold sensitive. Plants are sun tolerant from an early age.
