Habitat:
Moist slopes and valley bottoms of north eastern Madagascar.
Description:
A massive, stocky, litter collecting palm, to about 8m tall,
with erect leaves.
General:
Litter collecting palms, as the name suggests, collect litter in the
top of the palm, trapping it by the upward pointing leaves.
This litter servers a built-in compost heap to nourish the plant.
Culture:
Although this can become quite a large palm, it is still essentially a palm of the understory, so it prefers shade, and it also likes lots of water.
