On steep slopes in moist lowland rainforest, Madagascar.

A spectacular and massive palm, the trunk to 25 m high, and 0.4 m in diameter. Semi-plumose leaves to 6 m long, arranged in a sub-tristichous manner.

General:
Said to be one of the most impressive palms in Madagascar, it is unfortunately becoming endangered in its native habitat.

From the description of its habitat, it would probably like moist, well drained conditions, sheltered as a seedling, but growing into full sun as an adult.
