Habitat:
The islands of Viti Levu, Nagau, Vanua Levu, and Taveuni, of Fiji. It is found on ridges, and steep slopes from 230m to 1200m. It is most common on Taveuni, in tropical cloud forest, at around 1200m, in areas of very heavy rainfall (around 6m/20feet per year).

Figure 1. C. exorrhizum on Des Voeux Peak, Taveuni, Figi.

Description:
A tall, solitary emeragnt palm, to about 20m, with a white to brown trunk, and spiny stilt roots to about 3m long at the base. The crownshaft is up to 1.2m long, and covered in a whitish wax. It has very long, arching leaves with long, dark green, pendulous leaflets.

Culture:
A sheltered position, well drained, but with LOTS of water. Apparantly quite difficult to grow, due to its rather specialized habitat.
