Distribution & Habitat:
Shady, moist, limestone based rainforest in Mexico.
A small palm with bifid leaves, spreading with underground runners (stolons). Forms clumps up to 8m across, with numerous small, canes to about 1.5m tall. Leaves are dark green, deeply notched, with serrated edges.
This is dioecious palm (has both male and female plants), but nearly all plants in cultivation are female, so most propagation is via divisions.
Warm, sheltered, and moist.
