PACSOA - Burretiokentia vieillardii
Palms

Burretiokentia vieillardii
Home

Habitat:
New Caledonia, moist/very wet rainforest on serpentine soils.

Description:
An emergant palm to 18 m tall, a prominantely ringed trunk to 20 cm diameter, and a very distinctively marked crownshaft. It has a neat crown of glossy light green leaves, to about 2.4 m long.

Culture:
This palm has proved rather difficult to grow in South Queensland, and this I think is because of lack of attention to its requirements. As a seedling it requires quite heavy shade and ample amounts of water and humidity. It also wants a rather alkaline soil.
