Conservation Status:
Not endangered. This species is one of the most common Zamias in Mexico.
Distribution & Habitat:
It is found in Mexico on the Atlantic side of the
Sierra Madre Oriental in Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Tabasco.
Here it occupies various habitats including disturbed ones within its range.
It usually occurs from sea level to 1000 m in low dry deciduous forest
or semi-deciduous forests at mid elevations to cloud forest at higher elevations.
It usually prefers dry, often sandy soils.
Description:
A small cycad with a subterranean caudex up to 12cm in diameter.
It usually has 2-6 erect or slightly recurved leaves,
between 0.4 and 1.5 m long, and a prickled petiole.
Culture:
Sunny, sandy, well drained position.
